Propolis is a product produced by bees to seal gaps and secure the entrance to the hive against the intrusion of microorganisms that threaten their health and life, to fix honeycombs to the walls, and to embalm intruders who have managed to penetrate the hive. It is a mixture of tree and shrub resin and bee gland secretions with a characteristic balsamic odor and taste. Its color varies - from greenish-yellow to brown, brown, or even black, depending on the chemical composition, which depends on the conditions of the place of production and the way it is obtained. The chemical composition and significant variation of propolis depend on the vegetation of the geographical area from which it comes, the season, and the breed of bees.
